Identity
The Self-Access Centre (SAC) is a language centre for English as a Foreign Language
(EFL) managed by the academic staff of the English Language Unit (ELU) and is free to all
students at the University of Macedonia. It is located on the 2nd floor of the K-Z
building and is open from 12.00 to 19.00 on weekdays.
Services
 |
The SAC provides the following services to
students in the University of
Macedonia:
 | The Open Learning Advisory Service and |
 | The SAC Assistants |
|
The Open Learning Advisory Service aims to help students:
 | find out about the SAC (access to resources, effective use of
resources, etc) |
 | start a self-study programme |
 | know which resources are most appropriate |
 | discuss learning progress |
 | know how to use particular resources or equipment |
 | get some general or specific advice on language learning strategies |
After a preliminary talk where you can find out more about your learning needs and
styles, you (together with the advisor) can negotiate an individual language learning
programme to be followed independently. If you wish, you can be monitored by coming to the
advisor regularly.
However, it should be noted that no teaching is involved on the part of any advisor.
The assistance and guidance is solely on the learning
programme and strategies used by the students independently.
Making an appointment
Outside Room 214 (DEOPS Block) there is a timetable. Look at the
timetable and book a slot the suits you (minimum 15 - maximum 30). The SAC Assistants are
students of the University of Macedonia who work on a part time basis. They are available
from 12 midday till 7 in the evening on week days when the SAC is open to help students
find their way around the centre and solve any technical problem that might arise.

The SAC aims
 | to increase the exposure of students to the target language, i.e. English |
 | to provide students with guidance and advice so that they can create
their own individualized programme of study in English. |
